The StFX Students Union is looking to hire a Sustainability Program Coordinator for Summer 2026

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Community Garden Oversight: Manage and oversee the operations of the community garden, including planting, watering, and weeding.

  • Coordinate volunteers and collaborators for successful maintenance and harvest of the garden throughout the summer.

  • Policy Development and Advocacy: Research and develop environmental sustainability policies and proposals for the Students' Union. Advocate for student issues relating to sustainable development and provide policy recommendations on sustainable practices internally to University administration and externally to Municipal, Provincial, and Federal Governments.

  • Sustainability Committee Leadership: Chair and organize a campus Sustainability Committee. Facilitate regular meetings with Union executives, Union Directors of the Board, StFX staff and administration, StFX Facilities management, StFX Campus Food Services, and student or local environmental groups. Collaborate on projects that promote campus-wide sustainability.

  • Grant Writing and Application Support: Draft and assist in grant applications for campus sustainability initiatives within the Union or student groups.

  • Campaign Management and Event Coordination: Launch and manage campaigns focused on reducing personal energy usage, water usage, and limiting food waste.

  • Organize sustainability-focused events for students, including town clean-ups, community thrifts, furniture swaps, etc.

  • The Sustainability Coordinator should possess: An understanding of sustainability concepts, environmental issues, and best practices; Familiarity with local and global environmental challenges and sustainable development goals;

    • Strong leadership, initiative, and organizational skills;

    • Skills in project management, event coordination, and volunteer management;

    • Proficiency in written and oral communication, policy development, and advocacy strategies.

  • Meetings and Training: Attend regular staff meetings and participate in trai sessions related to sustainability and environmental management. Conduct res and reach out to external partners to learn about best practices for garden maintenance.

Location: Antigonish, NS

Wage: $19.75 per hour

Time: 30 hours per week for 8 weeks
