Notice is hereby given that the STFX Students' Union Board of Directors have initiated a referendum. The Chief Returning Officer gives notice to all electors that the two (2) referenda questions listed below will appear on the ballot as part of the 2026 Students’ Union General Election.
Information
Campaign Period: Monday, January 13th, 2026, to Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in concurrence with the general election.
No campaigning may take place prior to the designated campaign period.
Polling will take place from January 29th to 30th online.
All activities will take place as administered by the Chief Returning Officer in accordance with the Elections Act and Union Bylaws.
How to Vote
A ballot will be sent to your St.FX email account. Click the Link and vote. Instructions shall be given on TheU’s social media.
How to Campaign
Those intending to campaign on this referendum may register by contacting elections@theu.ca during the nomination period from December 3rd to January 9th. Those campaigning must be full voting members of the Union. The first eligible member to contact elections@theu.ca for the respective campaign shall be selected.

Background
“As a society focused on accessible, inclusive, and sustainable outdoor recreation, X Outdoors helps students explore the outdoors and build community through hands-on experiences. Central to this mission is the Gear Library, which offers shared camping and backpacking equipment to ensure all students can access meaningful outdoor adventures. Your support strengthens this initiative and enhances the ability of students to make the most of their time at StFX.”

The first question is;
“Do you support implementing a $0.50 per annum student fee for the next 3 years to fund the X Outdoors Gear Library, supporting access to outdoor equipment for all students?”
Yes, I support the implementation of $0.50 per annum student fee for the next 3 years.
No, I do not support the implementation of $0.50 per annum student fee for the next 3 years.
Abstain, I choose not to vote on the question.
Referenda Question (2)
Background
“Did you know Antigonish Community Transit runs a bus service with two stops at StFX? The bus can take you to places like Walmart, Sobeys, and the hospital, all within a short ride from campus. By voting 'yes' you would be supporting changes that would help Antigonish Community Transit better meet students' needs. These ongoing updates include more efficient routes, better signage, and longer operating hours on weekdays and weekends. With your support, students will get more frequent service and a $660-value annual transit pass that allows you to take unlimited trips for just $50 a year.”

“Are you in favour of a $25 transit fee per semester to be applied to all StFX students for the next 5 years?”
